The Freeport High School Administration, faculty and staff would like to wish you all a happy holiday season! Please enjoy this time with your loved ones. Our school will be closed from December 20, 2024--January 7, 2025. Students will return to school on Wednesday, January 8th.
Freeport High School Principal Donna Simmons is pleased to announce the 2025 ESP of the Year, Celeste Goodwin. Ms. Goodwin joined the Freeport High School family in 2015 as the Guidance Aide/Registrar. Ms. Goodwin is also an active sponsor for FHS’s St. Thomas Aquinas Organization.
Ms. Goodwin’s oldest son Grant is a 2024 graduate of FHS, and her son Davis is currently a dual enrollment student. We are beyond thankful for the work Ms. Goodwin does for the faculty, staff, and students at Freeport HIgh School. Life is truly GREAT because Ms. Goodwin is a Dog! 💙🧡🐾
Principal Donna Simmons is pleased to announce that Ms. Ann Lewis is the 2025 Freeport High School Teacher of the Year. This is her fourteenth year in education, and she has taught at FHS for a total of five and a half years (2012-2014 and 2021-Present). Ms. Lewis currently teaches English IV, AP Literature and Composition, and English through ESOL courses. She also taught at North Springs High School in Atlanta, Arnold High School in Bay County, and Cherry Creek Academy in Denver. She holds a degree in English from the University of Georgia, followed by a Master’s in the Art of Teaching English 6-12 from Georgia State University.
In addition to the classroom, Ms. Lewis has been a team lead at North Springs and Cherry Creek and served as a liaison for the Alliance Theatre Education Program for 9th graders at North Springs. She has served as an instructional coach at Cherry Creek Academy and taught English as a Second Language to adults in Florida, Atlanta, Argentina, and South Africa. She also taught the TESL/TEFL certification course for Oxford Seminars in Atlanta and worked as a writer and copy editor in South Africa. Fun fact: Ms. Lewis even dabbled as a plastics broker in Palm Beach!
Ms. Lewis’s impacts on students exceed far beyond the classroom. When asked why she was one of their favorite teachers, students and alumni responded with the following:
“I don’t like how she gives me a lot of work, but she has good energy, and it’s helped me have better grades in English.” – Eli Graves, FHS class of 2025
“Ms. Lewis is my favorite teacher because I have a connection with her, and she has pushed me to my limits. She’s a great teacher.” – Luz Matus, FHS class of 2025
“Ann Lewis (Ms. Lewis!) was one of my favorite teachers because she always kept things real. No matter what the project was, difficult or easy, she was straightforward and did everything she could to make sure everyone got it. She could always take off the ‘teacher’ hat and put on the ‘friend’ or ‘mom’ hat when I needed someone in such a formative, delicate time being a teenager.” Kerrigan Casimir, FHS class of 2016
“Ms. Lewis had an awesome way of turning a tough subject into something interesting – the way best teachers do. She also had a way of drawing out the best in us, regardless of our background and upbringing. Her laugh was (is) contagious!” -Spencer Knox, FHS class of 2016
Anyone who knows Ann Lewis knows her true passion is teaching, and we are beyond blessed to have her at FHS. Life is GREAT because Ms. Lewis is a DOG! 💙🧡🐾
